Review: Despite the excellent performances by Bale, Depp, and Ms. Cotillard and the amazing 1930’s set pieces, Public Enemies left me wanting more. Director Mann seemed to leave out parts of the story that gave the film a “splotchy” texture. I felt that some scenes were either rushed or cut short, specifically the scenes with Dillinger (Depp) and his love interest Billie Frechette (Cotillard). Don’t get me wrong, the chemistry between the two was defiantly there, but there should have been more focus on their romance. I wasn’t expecting to see a love story when I bought my ticket, I was expecting, however, some bank robberies and some good old fashioned tommy-gun shoot outs, and this is where Enemies delivered. The shootouts were amazing. The deafening sounds of a Dellinger’s machine gun unloading on a swarm of federal agents looked and felt real. I was more than impressed with the action scenes and only wish there were more of them in the film. Public Enemies is now playing everywhere.

Sounds like you’re describing a great movie, not an average one. IMO, I don’t want more love/romantic scenes from the director of Heat. I want something rivaling the shootout in the streets that made me love Heat.
This movie sounds exactly like what I was looking for, I bet the DVD includes the director’s cut or extended version to fill the rushed scenes (hopefully?)

loooooove johnny depp! he rocked the movie. besides that, it was a little too long and some of the scenes seemed unnecessary or to drag on. the girlfriend wasn’t in the movie enough- she’s gorgeous so i would have liked to see her more!
