Fun With Analogies

Industry is to Music as

Media is to Politics as

Church is to God.

What do they have in common?

An unnecessary middleman that always fucks everything up.

Unfortunately they’re necessary.

I was watching the debates last night. They were cool.  But afterwards I checked out the “spin zone/room/tent/villa” on the cable news channels.  Its crazy how pundits will skew what either of these candidates say on both sides.  It’s kind of insulting when you think about it. Like, damn, we can’t just think for ourselves?  Why do we need these people telling us who won?  Isn’t that up to us? I kind of understand why FOX news exists in theory, I just don’t understand why they take it so far. I’m independent but lean liberal on more occasions, and even I can generally see the slight bias in CNN or MSNBC, mostly because I end up agreeing with them lol.  But that doesn’t mean they aren’t biased.  FOX news just tends to swing the pendulum way harder to the right. It’s not that they’re fair and balanced, it’s just that I think they assume, after watching them AND CNN/MSNBC/etc. you’ll walk away with both opinions on an issue. But when it comes down to it, none of this should be necessary in the first place.  Why should we have to filter out what a candidate is ‘really’ saying through the media? Why can’t we just cut all the excess bullshit out and listen to they’re policies.  This ain’t the year for all that extra shit.  Shit is real.

Which takes to me to the music industry:  All artists have beef with the industry they wanna be a part of. I’m no different.  Thankfully, major labels are dropping like the stock market.  But there doesn’t seem to be a bailout plan for them so much.  I’m cool with that for now.  I like the idea of independent artists booking they’re own tours, selling they’re own merch, distributing they’re own records, and promoting themselves the way they want to be viewed with the music they want to make.  I think people have gotten way more investigative since the surge of online music, and I love that.  It cuts the middleman of industry away that much easier.   Artists will always have to dabble in the corporate side of things if they want they’re music hitting a larger number of people. That’s just the way it is.  But there are now more creative ways of doing it.  Clothing sponsorships, etc.

I’m really excited to see where music goes in the next few years.  As the Majors fall, music will keep getting better (I think shit is bangin right now—this is a music golden era in itself—no rules!).  Plus, as I said in the paragraph above, shit is real.  We’re on the brink of a fuckin depression.  Sucks for all of monetarily, but, atleast some good music will sprout from it…it’s gonna have to.  Won’t be shit else to do but drink and make babies lol.

I’m not gonna touch to much on this last one, because religion is a sensitive subject for a lot of folks. I’ve always had the attitude that, whatever belief or religion makes you a better person, you got my blessing. As long as it doesn’t impede upon me. I happen to think church is no different than news media and music industry:  an unnecessary middle man that’s not going anywhere.  Maybe one day I’ll feel different, but right now I’m 3 steps away from becoming Buddhist. They seem to be pretty chill.  They don’t really get down with the whole “holy war” thing.  I can dig that.  For further views on church, please visit any George Carlin record or stand-up special.

Don’t forget the new free download “ill poetic presents NIN meets Outkast: Nine Inch Naliens” @ www.myspace.com/illpoetic.

Also, I’ll be in NY all of November, so hip me to some fly shit to check out while I’m out there:  shows, clubs, clothing spots, etc.  I haven’t been out there in a year or so.. Send me a message, leave me a comment.

you see fox news had 86 percent of views say McCain one the other night? When EVERY other media outlet said it was a land slide for Obama, that is just ridiculous.

well people have to recognize that artist who do all the work themselves now and days get all the financial benefits than having a middle man and cutting him/her in.

I hate all the major record labels, its like they never give anyone a chance... That is why me and my crew try to always keep to our hustle and just do what we must to even get shows which is hard to do lately cause Live Nation tend to own every venue lately. but Indi Music = Best Music

why can't we all get along, if every aspect of the industry got together and did their job correctly maybe we would get all the good music we deserve.
