The Roots' Criminal Remix Contest

| Wednesday, October 22, 2008

The Roots - Criminal (feat Saigon & Trucks North) (Acapella)

The Roots are one of the most unique, relevant, and important musical acts today. The Philadelphia-based group has pushed hip-hop to a new level through the use of live instrumentation, prolific lyrics, and collaborations with diverse artists.

The latest album from The Roots, Rising Down, couldn't come at a more appropriate time. Their most political release to date, co-founder ?uestlove describes it as "more mature and intense than all of our efforts." The track, "Criminal", deals with issues of injustice and life on the streets and features guests Truck North and Saigon.

Prize

This is Round 1 of the Roots Remix Contest. The Top 25 Finalists from this round, as voted by the Indaba community, will advance to Round 2. Each Finalist will receive an autographed copy of Rising Down.

For Round 2, The Roots will make another track from Rising Down available - for one week only - to be remixed by the 25 Finalists.

The winner of Round 2, as selected by Judges, will be featured on OkayPlayer and will have an opportunity to record an original song with members of The Roots and special guests. The winner will work in an Indaba Music session with these world class artists who will guide them through the entire creative process - from a ?uestlove beat all the way through to a mastered hit!

This is going to be a great oppertunity for whoever actually makes it to the final, I mean working with The Roots is like working with the Beatles if they was Hip Hop.
