“It’s no exaggeration to say that last weekend could go down as the most memorable few days in Boston hip-hop history (especially if you count the cherry-topping Public Enemy shebang at House of Blues last night). On Friday, Slaine shot the video for “99 Bottles” at a sold-out show at Church; on Saturday, M-Dot and Wiz Khalifa rocked for thousands on Government Center; and for three straight days and nights b-boys and b-girls from across the planet battled in the Floorlords-hosted United Styles 6, and celebrated the hometown crew’s 29th anniversary.

For me, the crowing moment of it all came on Friday afternoon, when I got to interview Crazy Legs at Fourth Wall after screening the truly remarkable documentary “Bouncing Cats.” The film is about his trip to Africa, where, along with Ugandan b-boy and humanitarian Abramz (who is now down with Rock Steady), he brings hope to thousands of young people through breaking. To say that “Bouncing Cats” was powerful and tear-provoking is an understatement; I honestly still can’t scrub some of the images from my mind.

If you missed the screening, then be sure to catch the film when it hits theaters and/or DVD. Until then, I hope you enjoy this half-hour Q&A with Crazy Legs. Just be prepared for some real talk; like he says: “Life is not an episode of Beat Street.”

Brokn.Englsh is a powerhouse group from New Jersey comprised of three emcees Myk Dyaleks, Cion Burris, and Lyriq2Go. The group formed in 2006 with one common goal, bringing quality music to the masses. They’ve graced the stages of the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, Southpaw, Public Assembly, Sullivan Hall, and the late Knitting Factory giving crowds lots of energy, soulful and intricate lyricism, as well as tons of charisma.  With the success of their hit single “Cherry Popper” from their 2009 release “The Drawing Board,” Brokn.Englsh teamed up with producer THE ARE to create a 4 track EP, but as the process went on, the tandem decided to create an entire album.  As a result they present THE ARE & BE.

RapIndustry: At what point did you actually start taking your craft more seriously?

Young Riot: One day I was sitting in the crib and I was listening to Mobb Deep. I had their CD single, you know how they used to come with the main, radio edit, and the instrumental? I wrote to the instrumental, and I actually remixed the Prodigy verse. And, I thought if I can remix a verse, I can write my own verse. My pops had a little recorder, so that’s how I started. Ever since then, it was like, “I have to write!”

RapIndustry: What series of events actually led to your current inking to Amalgam Digital?

Young Riot: I was fan of Max (B) and his music, (and) when I heard him starting to shout out Amalgam Digital I was like, “What’s Amalgam?” So, I did my research to find out more about them, and the more I learned the more I liked what they were doing. So, I uploaded my music using the User Generated Content Module on their site. Once they heard my music, they pulled it from the site and contacted me about signing with them.

RapIndustry: What’s that “live” show element like?

Young Riot: Oh, man, I love live shows, man! I always get excited before a show, because I love giving the crowd my energy and they usually react to it. I get to show you this is what I do. My shows are high energy, and I put thought into the sets. I’m planning to start adding more elements to my live shows soon…It’s all yes!

RapIndustry: Ultimately, what is your 5 to 10 year plan in entertainment?

Young Riot: The grand definitive purpose is to be very wealthy. To a point where my family don’t have to worry, and the people around me that I decide to take care of will be good. I’m going to leave my mark in the world, and I’m retiring into the ‘Hall of Fame’ when it’s all said and done.
