Still Got 5 On It
Yukmouth Interviewed by Angelo Snakeyes 2-20-07
AmalgamDigital.com: What’s the latest and greatest news with Yukmouth?
Yukmouth: Just working on the new Thuglordz album and The Regime album. Editing UGA Vol. 3 and making songs for my next album.
AmalgamDigital.com: You’ve been known to release a lot of mixtapes. How has the mixtape game helped you as an artist?
Yukmouth: The mixtape game helped me stay in the fans’ ears when I didn’t drop an album in four years. It also helped me step my lyrics up. As an artist you wanna make your mixtape song better than the original artist on the song so its helped me in a lot of ways.
AmalgamDigital.com: When did “The Regime” form and who are the current members of it?
Yukmouth: We formed The Regime in 1997 when we made the song, “Killaz On The Payroll”. That song was the start of The Regime. The members are Yukmouth, Tech 9ine, Gonzoe, Monsta Ganjah, Amp Pacino, The Fleet, Dizzle Don, Govnermatic, Freeze, Chino Nino, Tha Realest, Doracel, Lil’ Hyph, Lee Majors, Dru Down, Rah Man and Young Dru.
AmalgamDigital.com: You have stated that most of your previous beefs with other rappers are squashed. Was this a personal decision?
Yukmouth: No..it just happened. The Game beef ended when Eastwood and Game called me and we agreed to squash it. The Spider Loc thing…he called my peoples to get at me so we could squash it. The Master P thing…we just happened to be at the same place at the same time. We talked and squashed our beef. So it really just fell into place. I didn’t plan none of this. At the same time it’s good it went down like this cause I’ll still be beefin’ with nig*az over bullsh*t instead of gettin at this money.
AmalgamDigital.com: Do you regret any of the dis songs that you made in the past?
Yukmouth: I have no regrets cause those songs made me who I am today…a great MC. I just hate that I had to go against some of my favorite artist growing up as a kid. I loved Too Short and Scarface so to have to beef and make songs about them was hard cause I had so much respect for them. But they put my back against the wall and I came out shootin’.
AmalgamDigital.com: Out of all the dis songs you heard that were towards you, did you think any of them were good?
Yukmouth: I say the Game one, “I Got A Mill On It”, was hot. He was spittin’ some cool punchlines. Also the Too Short dis cause he told a true story about how we all used to funk with each other when The Luniz first came up.
AmalgamDigital.com: What’s your favorite album of all time?
Yukmouth: Ice Cube’s “Amerikkkas Most Wanted” album. He touched on a lot of gangsta sh*t when people were on some “fight the power” shit.
AmalgamDigital.com: The City Of Dope is being officially released on February 26th. Why should your fans go out and buy it?
Yukmouth: Fans should go get it cause it has all kinds of exclusive tracks on it. A lot of those tracks didn’t make my album and are only on the mixtape. So they get extra songs that’s not on the album. So go cop that and add it to your Yukmouth collection.
AmalgamDigital.com: What can we expect from Yukmouth in 2008 and beyond?
Yukmouth: Smoke-A-Lot Records on top of the rap world droppin’ four or five albums a year and DVD’s. I’m also doing a clothing line and I’m selling my own cigars and energy drinks. So real big things in the years to come.
AmalgamDigital.com: Any last words or shout-outs?
Yukmouth: Yeah. Shout out to J Prince for letting me off Rap-A-Lot so I can get this independent paper. Shout out to all my Regime dragon gang fans that have been holding down the movement and keeping us poppin’ in a fu*ked up industry. Thanks to all the fans and go cop my “Million Dollar Mouthpiece” album in stores now. Hit me up on Myspace at: www.myspace.com/yukmouth or my website, www.smokealotrecords.com, for the latest on me and The Regime. 1 hunnid.
